Das Foundation Center, New York, USA, hat die Förderbilanz 2005 von 700 US-amerikanischen Community Foundations vorgelegt. Die Fördersummen der Community Foundations stiegen im Jahr 2005 mit $3.2 Milliarden um 10,9 Prozent und damit annähernd zweimal so schnell wie die der unabhängigen Stiftungen und Unternehmensstiftungen. Gründe für das Wachstum seien, so das Foundation Center, neue Schenkungen an Community Foundations sowie außergewöhnliche Ausschüttungen von „donor-advised funds“. Außerdem hat das Council on Foundations, Washington, USA, eine Studie zur Investmentpraxis von Community Foundations herausgegeben. Es kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass das return on investments 2005 der Community Foundations durchschnittlich bei 7 Prozent lag. An der Studie beteiligten sich 165 Community Foundations. Das Council on Foundations kommt zu einer ähnlichen Aussage wie das Foundatiomn Center: „Community foundations make up one of the fastest growing sectors of philanthropy in the United States today.”
